I read the first book in this series this weekend. I started it at like 6AM on Saturday and was finished Saturday night. I would have been done before that because I could not put it down but I had plans. I thought about cancelling so that I could finish this book. It has been a while since I have been that into a book.

So the book starts out with Lily going to a party with her friends and they die. Lily ends up waking up and has to deal with the fact that she survived and they didn't. She moves to another town and ends up being friends with some interesting people. They have a lot of secrets and Lily tries to figure it all out. They help her heal a little bit from the loss of her friends.

I don't like saying too much in reviews but I was a little annoyed with Lily. Then I thought how would I act if I was the only survivor of a wreck? So then I was a lot more accepting of her. I can say I was not a fan of Mo from the beginning. Not really sure what it was at first but I didn't like him. Luc was a little bit better for me.

Seriously, go get this book and read it so that you can jump into the next book. I am really glad that don't have to wait very long get started on The Devil Made Me Do It. I am so ready to figure out how to go home "sick" from work today so I can read!!! I am giving the Speak of the Devil 4.5 stars out of 5!

Speak of the Devil Shawna Romkey 9781939173195 Books Reviews

I like to read the young adult novels that my kids read. Partly I want to make sure the content is appropriate, but it also gives us something in common to talk about and something to get excited about together. Often times, this can be a grueling process when the book is so geared towards kids that it's agonizing for adults.
This was NOT the case for Speak of the Devil. I enjoyed this book just as much as my daughter did. It was engaging and creative and we are both anxiously awaiting the sequel.
Author Shawna Romkey kept the story moving at a fast enough pace to keep my teen amused while still giving a depth of storyline that worked for me too. I encourage readers of all ages to take the time to read this book. You won't be disappointed.
**Complimentary copy provided by author for an honest review**

Speak of the Devil is a great story.
I love how unique the concept was and I love how the story intrigued me
to a point were I cannot put the book down.

About the story, the story is good and it's well written and the flow of the story
is good (easy to follow and all). At first, it didn't got my attention but as I read more I got hooked.
As I got to read more of the book, I found it more interesting and intrigued on what will happen next to Lily and what are Mo and Luc are. I was intrigued on what will happen next, if they will make it or will they fall.
Anyway, the way the story ended was good and I can't wait what will happen next!! =)

The story made me realize that even in times of trials, there will always be hope that will come even though you cannot realize it at first. Things will be better and there will be light and hope that will come.
As an adult, I've recently found that I love those precious few Young Adult novels that break through the age barrier. This is one of those books that appeals to those from pre-teens to adults. Like Harry Potter, Twilight, and James Patterson's Witch & Wizard series, this book is written to engage people of all ages (with the exception of very young kids) and draw some of us back to a time when the seating in the lunchroom was by clique. Teens will enjoy the similarity to their own lives, and those of us a bit older love the memories of what was, to us, an easier time.

But Lily's life isn't easy after her two friends drown and she's left the only survivor. Even moving to a new town, a new school doesn't seem to help. But when Lily meets a group of Theater Kids, she finds that life is not exactly as she knew it. Suddenly there are explanations, but even more questions. And then there's Luc, a mysterious boy, enchanting. Could he be the one to bring her back?

The writing flows easily, and the dialog is crisp and entertaining. But it's the mystery that drew me in. Every time I thought I had it figured out, I found I was wrong, and a new question was added to the list. By the end, I felt as if I'd been going from one dimension to another. Now I await the sequel with bated breath! Ms. Romkey is a talented writer, and very much in touch with her inner-teen. I look forward not only to the sequels, but whatever else she decides to write. With an imagination like hers, the sky's the limit!
